How to Keep Yourself Motivated

“You are what you repeatedly do. Excellence is not an event, it is a habit.” – Aristotle

Question – Why do some people have such a tough time motivating themselves? You’d think that success achievement and the fulfillment of our greatest dreams with the so attractive that we have no trouble getting motivated. Yet for many people it’s a major problem.

High achievers say it takes motivation to get the goal, yet what is motivation?

You must understand that motivation is not some secret formula sold only to star athletes, celebrities and motivational speakers. It’s a mental strategy you can learn to use for yourself something you can have when ever you need it.

And what are the times we all need to be motivated?

There are times when someone may really want to generate results, yet they don’t really feel like doing the things to get those results. They want what they’ll get when it’s finished. That’s when motivation strategies are required.

A simple example is from my early years in Taekwondo. I was a regular at the dojang (Taekwondo school), I made every class available throughout the week for the first year of my training.

Then I hit a bit of a bump in the road. I missed a few days here and there. I didn’t think much of it.

One day my instructor pulled me aside and asked me why I was missing class. My answers, which I thought were worthy, were met with a stern look. At the end of the evening I was getting ready to go home and found myself summoned to Master Lee’s office.

He told me that he understood that there are time when I may not feel like coming to the class and that I would have any number of reasons that would make sense, at least to me.

He went on to say, “The time you need to come the most…is when you don’t want to.” (The best part about being on the receiving end of this wisdom? It all came prior to my making the commitment to my competitive career in Taekwondo.)

Those words have stayed with me ever since and I offer them to you now:

The most important time for you to do the thing you want to do is when you don’t want to do it.

With that in mind, put every thing you have into every thing you do.

The best is yet to come!
